Intro
Here is a place to store the random patterns that seem helpful to traverse the fretboard.
Will categorize later.
Not including the regular ones like 2+2, bottom right 7, etc. Maybe at the beginning.
But Whats REALLY The Point? ITS JUST MATH
So we have 6 strings. 2 of them hold the same note E, so we can ignore 1.
Now we have 5 strings. That means we are trying to map the relationship of 5 strings to 4 other possible strings.
So lets saw this in a different way.
- We have 5 dots
- Each dot must point to the other 4 dots
- There is only 1 line allowed between any 2 dots
This leads us to a max of 10 lines in total.
But WHY Are We Doing This? To Be Able To Jump Horizontally Like On The Piano
So we can then define all relationships between the 7 scale degrees within 10 possible jumps. So lets define these 10 jumps.
Again, we don't care if its a major 6th going up so a minor 3rd going down or whatever. We just care about absolute jumps.
So imagine a piano. When we jump from the La to Re, we don't care about whether its a major 4th and a half going down.
We just care that we are jumping from the La to Re.
And these 10 possible jumps, allow us to memorize that on the guitar.
Whats The Total?
right, so can we write that out? we have, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, and 2:3, 2:4, 2:5, and 3:4, 3:5, and 4:5 ?
And Then The Practical Ones To Know For Now: 7
